What is a Gift Basket? It is simply a gift in a basket. First, I have to choose my theme-Wedding, bridal shower, baby shower, baking, tea, coffee, young girl or boy birthday, adult man or woman birthday, "over the hill" birthday, sick person, cancer patient.
And really, it doesn't have to be a "basket". It could be a baking dish, a covered box, or a gift bag. Anything that will hold your items.
Wedding-devotional book, candle, mugs or tea cups with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, candies, bath soap, lotion, line with a large doily
Bridal Shower-cake mix, spatula, measuring spoons, measuring cup, icing, line the basket with a tea towel other ideas-cleaning supplies, paper supplies, spices
Birthday for young girl- hair accessories, writing accessories, socks, perfume, lotion, bath soap
Birthday for young boy-Matchbox car, flashlight, pocket knife, play dough
You could do a basket for a sick person with soup, word search books, magazines or books, even audio books. Anything that would occupy and keep the unwell person's mind off her problems. If the person is able to sit up to a table, a puzzle would be nice too.
Or, you could include a skein of yarn and a loom to make hats and scarves. This loom can be bought at your local Wal-Mart and is not difficult to do. My brother is mentally handicapped and he can do this.
Our church has a Travelling Basket. This basket has travelled from family to family with items of the giver's choice. Nobody knows when they will receive it. The items have ranged from snacks to children's items to dish towels. As far as I know, it is still travelling after two or so years.
