Yard Sale Find

I haven't done much yard saling the last few weeks.  But I did run out a little on Thursday morning.  This is what I found!

I paid $3 for seven sherbets.  I already had some glasses to match!

Don't you think these will help to sit a pretty table?

These are a cheap version of a pattern of old glassware called Candlewick.  Candlewick is known by the small balls around the edge of their dishes.  Real Candlewick is smaller and daintier looking.

Do you like old glassware or old dishes?

You Got THAT At A Yard Sale?

It is really amazing!  You can get most anything at a yard sale.  Sometimes it's a matter of patience or sometimes it's a matter of being at the right place at the right time.  What is the most amazing or unusual item you have found at a yard sale?

This is my most unusual item.

This is Bobby, my cockatiel.

Now, I do have to confess that I personally did not buy him at a yard sale.  My sister-in-law did and after about a month, I inherited him.  He came with a cage and everything for $20.

He whistles, and says "Come here, Bobby!"  One time I thought he said, "Pretty Bobby!"

We have open beams above our kitchen, and when I let him out, he likes to fly up there.  Usually it is pretty hard to get him down from there.  The worst thing about it is our kitchen table is right below!  Just use your imagination about that!!

I said that I would NEVER, EVER have an animal in my house.  But Bobby is a little different.  He doesn't need to go outside every so often.  And he is unique.  Maybe I am eating some words, but the way I see it, he is a little different than most normal house pets.

Here are some more pictures of my friend, Bobby.

He likes to sit on people's heads.

It is a little weird to have a bird sit on your head.  I am not sure how you teach a bird to do that.  Some people raise them from babies, but I heard it is a lot of work.

Here is a video of Bobby whistling.  Hopefully you can watch it.
Sorry it is sideways.  I also tried to get him to talk but he just wanted to go away from my camera.

So what is your most unusual item that you bought at a yard sale?

Or what is the biggest bargain you have ever gotten at a yard sale?

Yard Sale Finds

In my family, for each of our birthdays, we have a Sister's Day.  This month for my birthday,  I had wanted to go to a farmer's market and a nursery down below Washington DC, but that did not work out.  So we went to some yard sales and ate at China Buffet in Scotland.  We had a little time left, so we visited Maplewood Produce.  I had not been there for years even though it is not very far away.  It is an attractive greenhouse with lots of plants, but not as many as Lurgan Greenhouse.  The prices were just a little higher than Lurgan also.  While there, I found Sangria watermelon plants.  I had planted them one year and had the best and sweetest tasting watermelons!

Here is some of the things I got yard saling-
A heavy hunting coat for $5.

A Carhart coat for $3.  It is not the heavy kind, but that's OK, it should still suit our purposes for our 10 year old.

Our boys work on their grandpa's farm, so these lined jeans are just perfect for winter.

Since it was my birthday month, I chose to splurge a little for myself!

My younger sister got some special deals too!

$25 rocking chair

$.50 lamp ( best bargain of the day)

What was your bargain from yard saling?  We would love to hear!
