Strawberry Time!

This is the time of year for strawberries!  We love Strawberry Shortcake!  But did you know that there is more than one Strawberry Shortcake recipe?

My younger sister made her husband Strawberry Shortcake eespecially for him when they were first married.  Her husband took one look at it and said, "I wanted Strawberry Shortcake!"  So there is different ways of making it.  Here is the way he likes it-

 Here are the steps-
1. Buy a yellow cake mix.
2. Bake the yellow cake mix in a 9x13 pan.
3. Put a serving in bowl with a generous helping of sweetened strawberries.
4. Add milk.
5. Now you have shortcake Wiser style.

Our mother always made it this way.  More like a biscuity dough.  This recipe comes from an old Betty Crocker Cookbook.

Shortcake-
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening
1 cup milk

Heat oven to 450 degrees( I do it at 400 degrees).  Stir flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, in bowl. Cut in shortening.  Stir in milk until just blended. Spread dough in 2 greased layer pans.  Dot with butter. Bake 12-15 minutes.
(frugal pal note-I double it for a full pan.)

Cap and wash 1 quart of strawberries. Add about 1 cup sugar and mix well.

Put strawberries on top of a serving of shortcake and add milk.  Very delicious!

How do you make Strawberry Shortcake?  Spongy cake or biscuity cake?  We would love to know?

Do you have any other good strawberry recipes?  Feel free to share!

We use the Wiser style, except we use a white cake mix.
