Homemade Twinkies

The recipe of the day is Homemade Twinkies. It is really simple and delicious!

Homemade Twinkies
Bake two cake mixes according to package directions in 2 large cookie sheets.

Let cool 15 minutes and dump both cakes out of the pan.

While cake is cooling, make 15 Minute Icing.

15 Minute Icing
1 stick butter
1/2 cup Crisco
4 tablespoons flour
1 cup sugar
2-3 tablespoons vanilla
1/2 cup mik
Beat 15 minutes.
frugalpal note: may replace Crisco with 1 stick of butter.  may use margarine instead of butter, but not the cheap kind.

When cakes are cool, spread Icing on one cake.  Put second cake on top of icing.  Chill and cut in serving size squares.  Wrap individually in saran wrap.  Freezes well.

If you do not want to make this many Twinkies, bake only 1 cake in a 9x13 pan.  Cut through the middle of the cake and spread icing between the two layers. Cut and wrap!

Enjoy!

Oh my gosh. Hubby and I were just talking about making these at home. He said he'd be sooo happy if I could find a recipe. And I did. I'll have to make these asap :)
