Homemade Soft Ice Cream

2 envelopes plain gelatin
1/2 cup. cold water
Soak until softened.

5 cups of milk
Heat until hot, but not boiling.
Remove from heat. Add gelatin mixture.

2 cups sugar
1/2 ts salt
2 ts. vanilla
Add stirring til dissolved. Then cool.

2 cups cream ( may use half evaporated milk)
Stir in. Chill. Place in churn.  Crank until hardened.
Yield 1 gal.

Frugal pals note- I have had success using all whole milk, just not as creamy. Still wonderfully delicious!
